Realtor’s Duties Before You Make an Offer

-Review recent selling prices of similar homes in the area to justify your offer price.
-Do a background check on the property: How long has it been on the market? Why is it being sold? How many times has it been listed?
-Check out the neighborhood and try to drive by the property at different times of the day and night.
-Consider the home’s future resale value.
-Consider your next move, since the seller will likely present a counter-offer. Figure out beforehand the highest price you are willing to pay for the property.
-Make a list of any other negotiable items (i.e. if the home needs any maintenance, are the appliances part of the deal, etc.)
-Be careful not to let your feelings rule. Remember, if the offer is turned down, there are usually other homes to your liking.
Keep in mind the amount of money you are willing to use for the down payment. Typically offers with higher down payments are considered stronger offers.
