Print Advertising vs. Internet Advertising– A Big Debate for Some

February 15, 2010 by Melodye · 2 Comments

For years the best source of advertising had been print.  Well,  that no longer stands true (I’m sure the trees are thankful for this).  Over 80% of buyers begin their search on the internet.

Living in the electronic age it is mandatory to advertise your properties (if you want them to sell) on the internet vs. a newspaper.  Yes, you do see lots of ads in the weekend newspapers, but it is not as effective any longer.  Research has shown that very little if any traffic actually comes from those ads and more and more are reading the news online vs. from a paper.

In fact our office did an open house study and the majority of open house attendees actually resulted from internet open house advertising and also, maybe surprisingly,  from folks seeing the open house signs and following them until they reached the subject property (the more signs the better to get the traffic).  If you’ll notice there are fewer and fewer ads in the newspaper for homes these days, I wouldn’t be surprised if they are phased out completely in a couple of years.

Your best bet would be to work with a Realtor who is internet savvy and can demonstrate a good internet presence both for themselves and their broker.  Real estate agents who understand the power of the internet and work that into their sales plan, will be the ones who will be able to market your home more effectively and, if all goes well, sell it more quickly.

What can be done besides realtor’s site, realtor.com, and craigslist?

Is social media useful for promoting a listing?

  2. Melodye says:

Absolutely, I use facebook daily and on occasion I tweet. Social media is the latest and greatest to capture the youger generation of home buyers and sellers.
